Why study for an undergraduate degree?

There are many reasons why you may choose to go on to study for an undergraduate degree. For some, higher education qualifications are a prerequisite for their chosen profession - for careers in teaching or law, for example, a degree is a must.

Even if you are undecided on what you want to do when you leave university, an undergraduate degree can often result in a higher salary as well as giving you a wider choice of occupations. For others, higher education appeals simply because it offers the opportunity to study a subject you love in depth.

Whatever your reasons, we aim to guide you through the process of degree study. We explain the different qualification types and how to apply, as well as filling you in on the funding options that are available

You can also take a look at the latest reviews from students who are already studying the undergraduate subjects you are interested in, and create a shortlist of the unis and colleges that most appeal to you. Our aim is to help you with this important decision and make it easier for you to find the perfect undergraduate degree course

Qualification types

An undergraduate degree course usually consists of three years of study, at the end of which you'll receive either a bachelor degree or a diploma. You 'll normally start studying your chosen major right away, so think hard about the right degree subject for you.

A bachelor degree with Honours requires an additional year of study and you'll often need to write a thesis based on research done during that additional year.

You could also consider an associate degree, which is a two-year qualification that usually follows the completion of your secondary education and can lead into a bachelor degree.

Classes at undergraduate level will be a mixture of lectures and tutorials. Lectures are usually held in large halls and can have upwards of 200 students. Tutorials are usually held in smaller groups with around 30 students or fewer... More undergraduate info
