This course provides training in family therapy with a focus on supervision of family work and integrating family therapy theory. Itís ideal for psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, youth workers, drug and alcohol counsellors, psychiatric nurses or workers from other professions who are
suitably qualified and want to focus strictly on family therapy counselling.
It offers a solid grounding in systems theory and ample experiential work, including supervised clinical practice in a family therapy context in teams of no more than six students.
Family therapy focuses on the important role of the family and the power of relationships to foster social, emotional and mental wellbeing.
With some additional hours of supervision, graduates are eligible for clinical membership of the Australian Association of Family Therapists (AAFT).
Students must have completed Undergraduate degree with at least B or 70-per-cent grade average, comprising: a four-year degree in a related discipline, or a Bachelor's degree and approved fourth year of study, or a three-year undergraduate degree in the health and welfare field, or a Graduate Certificate in Family Sensitive Practice or equivalent and a three-year degree in a related discipline.
