course info: Bachelor of Technology (Building Surveying)

This course objective is to produce graduates who have acquired fundamentals in underlying areas of mathematics, physics, graphic communication, written communication, and health and safety; strong technological base for professional practice in the area of building surveying; sound knowledge of the policies and practices of Australian building regulatory systems. They gain an understanding and appreciation of building design and approval, and building construction and inspection. A broad range of vocational skills that can be used to manage and operate a building surveying business, within either the private sector or public sector, in order to meet the needs of developers, practitioners, authorities, and other significant stakeholders. They gain the specific skills that prepare students for employment in the fields of design consultancy, certification, approvals and permits, construction management, services installations inspection and maintenance, and facility management. They gain an ability to work ethically and professionally either independently or in a team in the provision of building surveying services to clients and employers and adapt to the changing needs of industry, commerce and community. Graduates of this course can administer acts, regulations, codes and standards applicable in the following areas of building planning, design, documentation, approval, construction, occupation, alteration, maintenance, demolition.

Applicants with year 12 must have commenced or completed studies leading to a Diploma or Advanced Diploma at an Institute of TAFE or they must be a mature-age applicant.
