Course description:

This course offers students the opportunity to combine different disciplinary approaches to health and the environment. Students will be able to choose from a range of units that include core units in public and community health, health ethics, policy, law and sociology. These units all focus on understanding or improving the health status of individuals and communities in different social settings. The program encapsulates the principles of public and environmental health, including an understanding of the risk management aspects of maintaining good health and environment. It also familiarises students with a social model of health service provision and builds skills in social research design, statistics and research methods, policy, ethics and law. There is a growing need to develop professionals who can contribute to government policy initiatives in the health field through their skills in, and understanding of, the key determinants of health. Graduates completing this degree will be able to identify and manage threats to the environment, as provided by the health science discipline, and apply the theory of working with individuals, families, groups and communities as provided by the social science discipline. Graduates are employable across a range of vocational areas such as community and public health promotion and planning, policy development, social and market research, risk management and health education.

Entry Requirements:

Students must have an appropriate Victorian Year 12 or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification. They should have prerequisites units 3 and 4 with a study score of at least 20 in English (any).

Accommodation availability: Yes Accommodation Details: This campus offers only on-campus residential college style accommodation suited to first year or international exchange students provides a safe and supportive environment. For more independent students furnished student apartments are available for sharing with one or two other students. The two styles of accommodation are home to 235 students each year. Visitors to the university can also utilise our fully-furnished visitor accommodation for short-term housing needs.
