Course description
This course requires sorting out the true from the false and careful sifting of evidence. It is even more difficult to uncover the deep causes of events such as the American Revolution, the First World War, the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe or the colonization of Australia. History introduces to the complexities involved in these exciting pursuits and requires using imagination as well as reason. It requires to judge historical interpretations and to pit their own interpretation against those reached by other students. History will challenge through lots of arguments, lots of shared discoveries and lots of fun. Graduates find careers in which they can use their skills in research, critical analysis and written communication such as historical research and writing, teaching, journalism, librarianship and archival management, government agencies, museums, cultural heritage and tourism, business administration, politics and publishing. It lays the foundation for further study options at honors and postgraduate level and a range of vocational studies such as journalism, museum curation, archive management, cultural heritage and tourism as well as other postgraduate studies.
